MARK SEGAL
Mark Segal is the Co-Founding Director of The Better Business Group Ltd and The Accreditus Register of Approved Tradesmen. After almost 40 years of experience, he is a leading innovator and mentor in the UK association industry.

After 8 years of thorough research, including face to face interviews with some 5000 builders to find out first-hand what was really required of an association for the UK building industry, Mark went on to co-found the Better Business Group Ltd in 1995. This was the first comprehensive continual monitoring and rating system for builders in Europe. They provide ratings on every aspect of the builders they monitor, mentor them to improve, provide quality enquiries for them to quote on and give help, advice and protection to their clients.

As part of his role, he is also an advisor to Build-It Magazine, hosting their ‘Find A Builder’ stand at BuildIt Live exhibitions. The success of the association is evident today, known for its unique offering and innovative nature that continues to lead the way in the UK. Often copied but never bettered!

Mark began his career in 1980 as assistant to the Budgeting and Reporting Director at the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales quickly progressing up the ranks to Management Accountant. Here, he was responsible for re-organising the administration of the finance department of the Institute of Chartered Accountants, achieving doubled productivity with no increase to costs.

In 1989 Mark became a founding director of The League of Professional Craftsmen where he oversaw operations, personally recruited over 600 members and developed and expanded the initial benefits package, increasing market share. During Mark’s time at The League he went on to co-develop The Independent Business League, a more general business association. After a short time, he was headhunted in 1994 to consult for the Hotel Broadcasting Corporation where he shared his expertise to advise on sales techniques and find new sites. Since 1995 he has remained as Co-Founding Director of The Better Business Group, continuing to mentor builders and grow as a market leading organisation.

Mark lives in Hertfordshire with his wife Michelle, daughter Gaby and their Miniature Schnauzer Minnie.

SIMON LAZARUS
Simon Lazarus is a business innovator and corporate mentor. He is Managing Director of The Better Business Group and The Accreditus Register of Approved Tradesmen. When he isn’t working, he spends time, horse-riding, cooking, and gaming.
Simon is a graduate of Southampton University, with a degree in Physiology and Pharmacology and has a wide business background.
He began his working career with Brown Brothers on their graduate training scheme. At the time they were the largest suppliers to the automotive industry in Europe. He was top salesman in the country, Financial Controller for 17 branches, Branch Manager, and Capital Equipment Specialist.

Simon was then head-hunted by The Union Trading Company of Switzerland, as Sales Manager for Link Garage Systems. Subsequently he presented a business plan to the main Swiss Board for a new company selling budget priced equipment. Following approval, was appointed General Manager of the Business, KSU.
He then co-founded the League of Professional Craftsmen where he negotiated, ran and maintained the service package to members. He developed new quality standards enabling them to gain preferential insurance coverage and rates, and successfully negotiated with the Office of Fair Trading an agreement under the Restrictive Trades Practices Act. He designed, programmed and implemented a complete membership administration system.
In 1995 he co-founded The Better Business Group Ltd. This was the first comprehensive continual monitoring and rating system for builders in Europe. They provide ratings on every aspect of the Builders they monitor, mentor them to improve, provide quality Enquiries for them to quote on, and give help, advice and protection to their clients.
Simon is a business coach to HBXL clients - the industry leading estimating software for builders, an expert interviewee on Fix Radio - the dedicated radio station for builders, and an advisor to Build-It Magazine, hosting their Find a Builder stand at BuildIt Live exhibitions.
